Mexico gained its independence in 1821 after nearly exactly 300 years of Spanish Colonial rule. Its enormous territory included that of Nevada, California, Utah, much of New Mexico, parts of Arizona, California, Wyoming, and most significant of all Texas. Texas, having allowed American migrants in along with enslaved peoples which was against their laws, ended up separating entirely and becoming its own country for 9 years until the USA annexed it in 1845. A heated debate remains as to whether the land mentioned above was stolen (it was) or not, since the USA, upon definitely defeating the Mexican Military during the Mexican American War offered 15 million and a bit of debt relief. However this is paltry for the amount the USA gained and more of a whitewashing than anything else.

US and Mexico relations, description of how we have used and abused, robbed, meddled, stolen, and destroyed an ancient and beautiful civilization. That is, we tried to. Ties between cartels and the CIA go deep. Drugs and weapons are intentionally smuggled in and out of the border while the public is convinced that their enemy lies to the south and seeks to reap what they sow, a concept so absurd that even the most delusional white nationalist knows it to be false. Apart from the faults found in any society, Mexicans are astonishingly hard working, humble, kind, and generous people. They harvest and build for next to nothing because of the permitted rapacious practice of hiring illegal immigrants in the USA, paying them illegally low wages, and discarding them at a moments notice when they are no longer of use to you. The injustice is astonishing, the cruelty deep and profound, and the lack of empathy represents a truly disconcerting characteristic of human nature that brings shame to an entire nation.

A different way of surviving

Mexico runs at a different pace. It’s felt in every aspect of society with the exception of the globalized mega cities. The sense of superiority we’ve been convinced of in the USA rings hollow in the face of the sense of community and joy felt in many parts of the country. It is one of many examples of how our supercilious attitude is so erroneous as to be laughable. Below are the images I captured of one pueblo in particular, Pátzcuaro, in Michoacan. Beautiful beyond belief and an escape from the savage individualism and materialistic narcissism of the USA.

A shocking lack of empathy

every nation needs a strong border. but have you ever considered that the reason so many take the heroes journey up north, risking quite literally everything in the process, is because us, our country, has created such desperate conditions through our actions that there is little choice but to risk it all without any guarantee of success?

Think about what it means to pack up your family, your home, your life, everything you know, and undertake what you know to be an exceptionally dangerous journey north. For those lucky enough to have visa free access to countries north of the border Darien Gap this still means a long and arduous journey, defined by La Bestia, a train known to be incredibly dangerous, l with little to hold on to, endless extortion along the way from opportunistic criminals, robbery, injury, death, arrest, not to mention the difficulty in bringing less capable family members along to hop a cargo train. Even if they make it to the border, none of this guarantees them a crossing, nor does it guarantee work, nor does it secure them a place in the country. I encourage the American public as well as those in Europe to view this situation empathetically. No one wants to leave their home under these conditions. No one. They are pushed to do so by the imperial meddling of the world’s current superpower that creates or helps create conditions that are intolerable, dangerous, or otherwise unsatisfactory for those living in areas where we have installed dictators, trained military juntas through the School of the Americas, and done everything we can to destabilize political realities, democratic or otherwise, that contradict our desire for wealth and power.

Comparing american illusions of grandeur with Mexican humility

Americans have long had allusions of grandeur and superiority. That’s no secret. We meddle in the affairs of others until we achieve our goal. We rape and pillage as the vikings would take a village and its women. Mexicans on the other hand don’t feel the need to meddle with, steal, sneak in and around governments, and ultimately install measures of control around the world for their benefit. They are content, and proud, to be Mexicans and they should be.

God exists here, and that belief is seen in the behavior of its people

Nietzche’s oeuvre is your best resource for understanding this point, but the fundamental idea is that without a high power offering a moral framework, man’s idea of morality loses all sense of legitimacy. God is replaced then with the next most powerful thing, which in the case of humankind is nearly always iniquitous and vile. I’m talking about money, profit, power, the titans of industry described in Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, none of whom offer any kind of moral framework, rather a system of profitable exploitation that leaves us with rapacious barons of industry as our ethical captains. This process is long complete in the United States and most of the west but never fully took over Latin America. Thus, a system of morals founded in the almighty can still be felt. Not always, but it can be felt.
Community has meaning in this country. Few are truly alone.

Mexican labor has long been exploited intentionally and illegally by American employers to increase profits. We rely on illegal immigration for just about everything and the idea that Americans can or would take the jobs made available by mass deportation is beyond laughable. in just 7 days an entire supermarket was constructed from dirt lot to fully stocked just down the street. Americans are lazy, entitled, and demanding. They are slow to act and refuse discomfort at all costs.
